About Castelnau

Castelnau, the main road in Barnes, leads up to Hammersmith Bridge. The road takes its name from Castelnau-le-Lez, a village on the outskirts of Montpellier in southern France. In the late 17th Century, the 10th Baron of Castelnau fled France for England following persecution, and his son settled in Barnes. Descendants built a row of fine Regency-style villas, complete with coach houses, along the road. Castelnau has a strong sense of community; properties are rarely available, with many families living in the same house for decades.
