The Director’s Cut

Home cinema rooms in London

From surround sound systems to plush sofas, home cinema rooms provide the ultimate luxurious entertainment experience.

Audio is the one of the most important aspect of an at home cinema. The clarity and power of the speakers alongside their location create an immersive experience.

As for lighting, it’s an element that is likely to be forgotten. The room will be in complete darkness however to create the perfect ambience, lamps at different low lighting levels can be installed.

“Ceiling lights on their own look flat. By adding table lamps, wall lights and floor lights, a cinematic atmosphere can be created. Specialist cinema lighting can include star effect ceilings, cove lighting and LED strips on stairs provide pathway lighting,” says Ed Burchett, Director of Dexters St Johns Wood.

Choosing a screen for a home cinema is another key element. Projectors and large white screens are a great option, with sides that are motorised to expand and contract for different content, therefore creating the full cinematic effect.

The seating should be comfier and cosier than in any average cinema. “The idea is to have an elevated living room with all the high-tech equipment. From sofas with cup holders to electric recliners with massage features, there is very little that can’t be done to create a film lovers oasis,” says Sam Preece, Director of Dexters South Kensington & Knightsbridge.

Interior designs are also necessary to conceal the less appealing soundproof aspects of a room. Adding luxury fabrics such as silk and wool are very on trend and combined with great lighting, they can really create a ‘wow’ factor.
