Sky High

The rise of the double-volume ceiling

Few architectural elements add drama like a high ceiling. In prime central London, luxury properties typically feature an array of opulent finishes: from high-level appliances and smart technology to cinema rooms, saunas and interior designed spaces. But, one attribute few city properties can offer is sheer size and height.

‘Last year, all people wanted was space, and that hasn’t changed,’ says Tristan Garton, Director of Dexters South Kensington. ‘But, in London’s most affluent areas, high net worth buyers are looking for more than just sq. ft. The capital has lots of beautiful period properties, but only a fraction of them offer double volume ceilings, and this makes them extremely rare and desirable.’

‘High ceilings not only offer huge open and airy interiors, but they’re also status symbols,’ says Tristan. ‘They allow buyers to showcase their art collections or hang high impact decor like a grand chandelier.’

‘Add to that the fact that they’re visually exciting. There’s nothing like coming up an entranceway or lift and entering a room with floor-to-ceiling windows. The amount of light and space created indicates luxury, and fetches a high premium.’

Kensington Gardens Square, a three double bedroom penthouse apartment in Notting Hill, is a rare city property offering immense ceilings alongside 2,500 sq. ft of living space. Situated within a prestigious new building that benefits from 24-hour security and a lift that leads directly into the residence, the home also has a decked roof terrace with unrestricted views of the London skyline.

The most impressive feature of the property is undoubtedly its double volume ceilings. In the kitchen and living space, floor-to-ceiling Crittall style windows offer cityscape views and a huge amount of natural light. The height of the room also allows for unique pendant lighting over the seated areas and dining table, as well as three golden lamps over the central breakfast bar that cast a golden glow over the apartment in the evening.

The principal bedroom suite is similarly impressive, with a private balcony and a walk-in wardrobe. The room’s en suite bathroom is immense with floor-to-ceiling windows, double volume ceilings and white marble tiling that makes the space bright and inviting. New buyers can soak up views of Kensington gardens from their bathtub and walk-in shower, or choose to recline on the bathroom’s sofa bed that overlooks the park.

‘Few properties in London can compare to the grandeur of Kensington Square Gardens,’ says Tristan. ‘Located just moments from the local shops and restaurants of Notting Hill and the Bayswater and Queensway tube stations, this property offers an ultra-luxury home in one of London’s most coveted neighbourhoods.’ Our Notting Hill estate & letting agents are experts in the property market and can help you find, buy and let beautiful homes in the area.
